Me Paul Pierre resigns from his position as Judge and Investigating Judge at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince.
Through a letter addressed to the President of the Superior Council of the Judicial Power, Me Paul Pierre resigned from his position as Judge and Investigating Judge at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince. In this letter, Me Pierre took the opportunity to express his discordant opinion regarding the decision of the CSPJ dated November 13, 2023, to cut his salary and all other benefits from which he benefited.
As for the reasons which motivated the Magistrate’s action, they are numerous. “First of all, no formal response was given to my request for renewal of my mandate as Judge and Investigating Judge dated January 13, 2021 and relaunched on October 15, 2021” explains Me Paul Pierre. He believes that the CSPJinstead of striving to renew his mandate, proceeded to suspend all his services under the pretext that he abandoned his position.
Me Paul Pierre specifies that several decisions marked by irregularities and partialities, tendentious and revolting taken in recent times only reduce Haitian justice to its simplest expression. Furthermore, he emphasizes that there is a certain discomfort in being a magistrate in this gangsterized and corrupt Republic. Despite everything, there are a good number of honest, competent and courageous magistrates who suffer in silence, he persisted.
