July 2, 2010 : at least four people died in Haiti following the elimination of the Brazilian team against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals (2-1) of the World Cup. In Pétion-Ville, a district of the Haitian capital, one person died of a heart attack. In the Bel-Air district, a young Brazil fan committed suicide by throwing himself under the wheels of a car. A similar scenario took place in Nérette, near Pétion-Ville. In the commune of Petite Rivière, located in the Nippes department, a Seleçao fan stabbed a young boy after an argument. The information had been reported at the time by Radio Métropole and other local newspapers.

July 2, 1914: presentation of a draft convention by the American government to Oreste Zamor. This draft convention provided for customs control by the United States. The latter hoped that President Oreste Zamor (February 8, 1914– October 27, 1914), faced with difficulties, would easily bend in exchange for certain advantages. The president stood up to them. This same draft was presented again on December 10, 1914 to President Davilmar Théodore, and finally imposed in 1915, after the landing of the marines.

July 2, 2014 : The Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, François Guillaume II, announces a program for the identification and documentation of Haitian immigrants (Pidih). This program was to allow “300,000 Haitians”, particularly those residing in the bateyes, to receive “a birth certificate or an extract from the archives (of birth), a passport and a national identification card (Cin).

July 2, 2013 : 16 out of 18 senators present voted for the modification of certain articles of the electoral law of 2008, which aims to bring the end of the mandate (of 10 senators elected in 2009) to the second Monday of January 2015.

July 2, 2013 : the investigating judge of the court of first instance of Port-au-Prince, Jean Serge Joseph, issues a judgment, ordering the presidency to make Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and other members of the government available to the courts as witnesses, in the context of the processing of the complaint filed against Sophia Saint-Rémy and Olivier Martelly for corruption and usurpation of office.

Magistrate Jean Serge Joseph died a few days later from a stroke. He is said to have been subjected to political pressure two days before his death, during a meeting attended by the president Martelly.
