June 16, 1993 : a UN Security Council resolution imposes an arms and oil embargo on Haiti. This resolution, taken as part of the support of United Nations to President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, then in exile, and sanctions against the government resulting from the coup d’état of September 30, 1991, were applied in part.

June 16, 1998 : the President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernandez, visits Haiti. It was the first visit by a Dominican president to the country since that of Trujillo in 1960.

June 16, 2010 : death of Louis Marc Bazin in Port-au-Prince at the age of 78. He was Prime Minister of Haiti from June 19, 1992 to June 8, 1993.

June 16, 2000 : Léon Manus, president of the Provisional Electoral Council during the elections of May 21, 2000, left the country in disaster to go to the United States.
