Kenya is indeed a long way from Haiti, since the current Minister of Finance, Patrick Michel Boisvert, who broke the record of all Tet kale Finance Ministers and Petro Caribe fund managers, suspected of corruption, – which was denounced last February by anti-Ariel demonstrators – is still the law in the country.

Former ministers Ukur Yatani and Mwangi wa Iria, a former governor, are the latest high-profile leaders to be arrested over corruption allegations. However, analysts say Kenyans should not expect much from corruption cases involving politicians due to political interests.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating Ukur Yatani, who served as finance minister in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government, for alleged corruption.

Mr Yatani was arrested on April 24 along with 10 others, including Marsabit Governor Ali Mohamed Mohammud, after their homes were raided by anti-graft officers as part of a multi-billion shilling investigation .

Yatani is suspected of embezzlement of public funds and involvement in procurement irregularities and irregular award of tenders totaling 1.2 billion Kenyan shillings (9 million dollars) between 2013 and 2017, while he was governor of Marsabit County.

He is the first Kenyatta confidant to face charges of alleged corruption under President William Ruto.
