A Kenyan police commissioner was found dead in his hotel room in the United States, more precisely in Washington on Tuesday February 13, 2024, according to the Kenyan press. An investigation has already been launched by the American authorities.

This is surprising information. Police Commissioner Walter Nyamatowas found dead. The circumstances of his death have not been revealed by the Kenyan media, which emphasize that an investigation has already been launched by the American authorities.

The commissioner was part of a team of officers sent to Washington, according to The Star Kenya, for a seminar on security operations. He was based at the Administrative Police Headquarters as personal assistant to Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow.

His colleagues said he did not wake up when they went to check on him in his room. And to the greatest amazement, they found the inert body on the bed. The inspector described him as a dedicated and hardworking officer.

The inspector said U.S. officials are handling the matter at this time. “He was attending a seminar in the United States when he was found dead in his room. We will know more,” he said.

The family said they want justice for the death. The body will likely be flown back to Kenya after being cleaned by investigators.

According to Kenyan media, the commissioner is preparing to return to Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti. And, that’s why he was in a delegation to Washington.

This comes at the same time as Haiti, Kenya and the United States met to discuss the Multinational Mission. During these sessions, a deadline was even set.
