Thiago Messi chooses Argentina and dreams of playing with a Barcelona star
At 11 years old, Thiago Messi, the eldest son of Lionel Messi, expressed his preference to represent Argentina rather than Spain at international level. Born in Catalonia during his father’s legendary stint at FC Barcelona, Thiago is eligible to play for both countries. However, he seems inclined towards the reigning world champions, influenced by his Argentinian origins.
“Playing makes me more nervous than watching my dad play. I’m not good with my left foot. I want to play with the Argentine team and I don’t think the Spanish team can convince me,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
In addition to his international ambitions, Thiago revealed his desire to join the ranks of FC Barcelona. When asked which current player he would like to be teammates with, he replied: “I would like to play with Lamine [Yamal].»
16-year-old Lamine Yamal continues to shine with Barcelona and Spain, making that wish potentially achievable. Currently, Thiago is part of Inter Miami’s academy, while his father plays for the senior team in MLS.
