The Goncourt Academy announced this Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the recipient of this year’s Goncourt Poetry Robert Sabatier. The Haitian novelist and poet Louis-Philippe Dalembert is awarded the prize for all of his poetic works.

A victory for Haitian literature. Through these many torchbearers, it has been shining for ages all over the world. Louis-Philippe Dalembert has just added one more ingredient in the history of Haitian poetry.

The author of “Milwaukee Blues” knows the world of Goncourt. Indeed, the latter was nominated several times, but unfortunately did not win the awards. Now it’s done!

The publishing house “Les Éditions Bruno Doucey” which contributed to the publication of the author’s two recent poetic texts namely: “Critique du Balbutiement and En marche sur la terre”, respectively published in 2020 and 2017, expressed their satisfaction with the prize received by the Haitian author via their Facebook page.

“We are happy to announce that the Haitian poet and novelist Louis-Philippe Dalembert has won the Robert Sabatier 2024 Goncourt Poetry Prize for all of his work!

Great news for the world of Haitian poetry and literature, which the publishing house has been helping to promote for almost fifteen years,” wrote the publishing house in this publication on Facebook.

Louis Philippe Dalembert was born in December 1962 in Port-au-Prince. He had a background in literature and journalism. He earned a doctorate in literature from the University of Paris 3-Sorbonne Nouvelle. He has also taught at several universities both in the United States and in Europe: University Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Scripps College (USA), Freie Universität (Berlin, Germany), Bern Universität (Switzerland) and Sciences Po Paris.

He is also the author of around twenty works such as “Mur Méditerranée”, “Avant que les ombres s’effacent”, “The other side of the sea”, “Ballade of unfinished love”, “Le crayon du Good God has no eraser”, to name only these masterpieces.
