The Anti-Corruption Unit launched a workshop to present the diagnosis of the law of March 12, 2014 on the prevention and repression of corruption.
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) launched a workshop to present the diagnosis of the law of March 12, 2014 on the prevention and repression of corruption. The representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Mr. Adrian Banu, said on this occasion that there is enormous progress in the fight against corruption in Haiti.
Mr. Banu stressed that the efforts of the ULCC to put an end to corruption in the country are very remarkable. However, he called for strengthening coordination between institutions whose mission is to fight corruption.
For his part, the Director General of the ULCC, Mr. Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph, specified that the results are meager, ten (10) years after the adoption of the law of March 12, 2014. “Out of 87 investigation reports that are transmitted by the ULCC to the Haitian justice system, there is only 1 judgment of conviction and 4 closing orders, 1 of dismissal and 3 of referral” alarmed Mr. Ludwig Joseph.
Present at this workshop, the Minister responsible for the sanitation of State institutions and the fight against corruption and impunity, Marie Chantal Dumay, declared that we must act quickly against corruption, so that the population can regain confidence in republican institutions.
Marie Chantal Dumay recalled that the Prime Minister Garry Conille is aware of the negative impacts of corruption on the country’s economy. As such, it is committed to fighting corruption and impunity within the public administration. “Corruption breeds poverty, and poverty facilitates corruption,” concludes Ms. Dumay.
