Lyonel Trouillot | People always end up saying: enough!

lyonel-trouillot-|-people-always-end-up-saying:-enough!

What hatred of others, what appetite for power must be nourished within oneself to consider that a people can accept this as their destiny!

I will never forget this sentence that a representative of a criminal power said to me: power ends up producing consent. This is the logic of dictators and totalitarians: repress, repress, make repression a permanent state, and people will eventually get used to it.

There is also the famous sentence of Henry Queuille: “There is no problem which a lack of solution will not eventually overcome. »

These are the two principles of government that guided the criminal actions and inaction of the de facto government of Ariel Henry et al. Repression through the political use of the national police which went so far as to shoot at the population protesting against gang violence. Complicity with gangs established in working-class neighborhoods and effectively blocking any political organization in these neighborhoods.

This is the logic of dictators and totalitarians: repress, repress, make repression a permanent state, and people will eventually get used to it.

Contempt for Haitian demands for a transitional government resulting from consensus, knowing that they are protected by the United States, the United Nations mission in Haiti and a few bourgeoisie businessmen.

Considering a people like sheep barely daring to bleat or like dogs that bark without having the capacity to bite, this is the attitude of the de facto power for more than two years. What hatred of others, what appetite for power must be nourished within oneself to consider that a people can accept this as their destiny!

The unions, the churches, the liberal professions, the peasantry, the disadvantaged middle classes, artists and intellectuals, civil servants, public administration executives, all this vast world is nothing and will consent to the loss of meaning of existence, to live in fear and the greatest number in poverty, to renounce their right to choose leaders worthy of the name.

This kind of bastard gamble always ends up backfiring on those who took it. It is not the far-fetched and fascistic declarations of this minister of who knows what, the shenanigans and betrayals of this brown lawyer, the self-interested reversals of this false political party without convictions or basis which will stop the inevitable. People always end up saying: enough is enough! And the outcome is never good for those who have gone too far. The more they persist in their logic, the harder the end will be for them.

Every time we think of condemning a people to reprieve, we ourselves are only ever on reprieve.
