We have continued to say that de facto power has only two tools to maintain itself: violence and corruption.
Violence was already repression. The objective is twofold: to slow down protest movements and to create fear. This logic taken to the extreme means wanting to create a climate of terror.
It is in this context thatan attack was perpetrated against the person of a bishop whose civic commitment we know, a few days after the appeal addressed to the de facto Prime Minister by the Episcopal Conference of which Monsignor Pierre-André Dumas is the Vice-President. Call that can be summarized as follows: the people have spoken, they do not want you. Be good and leave. Call at the start, the response a grenade. Unless I’m mistaken, no member of the de facto power has spoken.
It is a tradition with him: total silence on the crimes and abuses of which Haitians are victims. This too is part of the desire to create a climate of terror. Signify through silence that these are unimportant, banal things, likely to be repeated with impunity.

Who will be the next one ? Another man of the Church? An opposition leader? A voice from civil society?
And those who did not have the courage to denounce an act of terror for the benefit of the de facto power, what will they do when it is their turn?!
Is the act sponsored or not? It does not matter whether it is the fruit of the diseased brain of a partisan or a subordinate in the service of de facto power. He enters into this logic of terror which, alone, could keep Ariel Henry in power.

And we can legitimately consider all those who support de facto power as complicit in this logic of terror. Accomplices by short-sightedness, accomplices by calculation, accomplices by “natural” hatred of Haiti. Accomplices.
De facto power means that it will use all weapons, all methods to maintain itself. He counts on his allies on the one hand, and on our fear on the other. Let us not give anyone the gift of our silence.
Dictatorial regimes use terror to achieve “pacification”. But terror always goes too far. There comes a time when abuse becomes indefensible. They will become so. And those who gave words, money to this power will not be able to say that they had encouraged, favored the production of so much evil in the name of good.

Communicate in a loud voice. Express refusal collectively. This will earn us a few grenades. But it would be worse to die in silence.
