Corruption Scandal within the CPT: Lawyer of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BNC demands the resignation of the three advisors involved
In a climate of growing tension within the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), the lawyer of the chairman of the board of directors of the National Credit Bank (BNC), Me Sonet Saint-Louis, has requested the resignation of three presiding advisors, namely Louis Gerald Gilles, Emmanuel Vertilaire and Smith Augustin. This request comes before their hearing by the commission of inquiry of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), in the context of a corruption scandal.
In a letter addressed yesterday to the President of the Transitional Presidential Council, Edgard Leblanc Fils, Me Saint-Louis argued that the resignation of the advisers would facilitate the smooth running of the investigation. He also stressed that presidential advisers do not benefit from any immunity linked to their function, thus making this decision necessary to guarantee the integrity of the process.
The case took an even more dramatic turn when Raoul Pierre Louis publicly accused the three presidential advisers of asking him for 100 million gourdes in exchange for a guarantee that he would remain in his position. Serious accusations that, if founded, could have major repercussions within the administration. However, the presidential advisers firmly rejected these accusations, denying any involvement in this corruption affair.
Public opinion and observers are now eagerly awaiting the results of the ULCC investigation, which promises to be decisive for the future of the CPT and for the credibility of Haitian institutions.
