The Haitian government, through the Ministry of Culture and Communication, says it is concerned about the disappearance of Haitian rapper Mechans-T, real name Wens Jonathan Désir.
After calls for help from Mechans-T’s loved ones and fellow musicians in the Haitian music industry, as well as a missing person notice issued by the Bahamian government, the Haitian government has finally spoken out on the rapper’s disappearance.
In a statement, the government expressed “its deep concern” following the disappearance of the Haitian rapper, whose family has not heard from him since July 4, 2024. The Bahamas is said to be the place where the artist was last seen.
“The Ministry of Culture and Communication (MCC) expresses its deep concern following reports that Haitian artist MECHANS-T, real name Wens Jonathan Désir, has been missing since July 4, in a foreign land,” declared the Haitian government, which described the singer’s disappearance as “apparent.”
“The circumstances of the artist’s apparent disappearance are, so far, very unclear,” continues the MCC statement, calling for everyone’s collaboration to “shed light” on the artist’s continued absence, despite calls for help from his family and fans.
Indeed, calls on social networks from fans and Haitian musicians are multiplying to find the artist who has not given any sign of life for several weeks, giving rise to the most outlandish speculations.
