The Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) met on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at the Villa d’Accueil, the President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), Jean Joseph Lebrun, accompanied by a delegation composed of advisors Carves Jean, Durin Junior Duret and Wando Wando Saint-Villier. Several points concerning the judicial system were discussed.
It was the Presidential Councillors Emmanuel Vertilaire, Louis Gérald Gilles and Smith Augustin who represented the Presidential Transitional Council in this meeting, according to a press release from the Professional Association of Magistrates (APM). The members of the judiciary present informed the Presidential Transitional Council of solutions to the deep crises in the judicial system.
“The agenda included closer cooperation between the judiciary and the executive branch, an update on the current situation of magistrates and improving access to justice for citizens. The crucial issues of the appointment and certification of magistrates were also discussed,” reads the press release of the Professional Association of Magistrates (APM).
For these advisers at the CSPJ, “this meeting symbolizes an important step towards a strengthened collaboration between the two powers of the State, with the hope of overcoming the current challenges of the judicial system and guaranteeing better access to justice for all citizens.”
Since the opening of the judicial year, justice has been operating at a slow pace. The endless strikes have undermined the judicial system alongside the insecurity that has hampered the activities of all sectors of the country.
