Under the leadership of former Miss Universe Haiti, Anedie Azael Doura, Miss World Haiti has unveiled its finalists for the year 2024. The presentation took place this Friday, August 16, at the Ritz Kinam hotel in Pétion-Ville.
At the press conference, attended by journalists, influencers, public figures and designers, the organizers of Miss World Haiti, led by Anedie Azael Doura, presented eight young women deemed particularly qualified to compete. Their goal is to select one of them during the finale on August 31, 2024, to represent Haiti at the 72nd edition of Miss World (Miss World) which will take place in February 2025.
Anedie Azael Doura, speaking at the press conference, called Miss World Haiti her “first baby,” despite already being a mother. “Since 2011, I have been fighting for Haiti to be represented internationally. I think Miss World Haiti is a good visibility, not only for the country, tourism and culture, but also to allow people to learn more about Haiti,” Doura said.
Asked by Loop Haiti about the current situation in the country on the sidelines of this competition, Anedie Azael Doura explained that, despite the challenges, organizing a new edition of Miss World is essential to maintain Haiti’s visibility on the international scene.
“I understand that the situation in Haiti is worrying, and I am not insensitive to the seriousness of the challenges we face. However, it is precisely in these difficult times that we must strive to maintain our visibility on the international scene. Organizing a new edition of Miss World is a way of showing that, despite the obstacles, Haiti continues to fight and to showcase itself,” she added.
Note that the Miss World contest is an international beauty event that elects a young woman as Miss World every year. Created in 1951 in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley, it is now run by his widow, Julia Morley, since his death in 2000.
This competition is one of the four most prestigious international beauty pageants, alongside Miss Universe, Miss Earth and Miss International.
The current Miss World is Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic, crowned on March 9, 2024 in Mumbai (India). She succeeded Karolina Bielawska, Miss Poland.
Furthermore, over the years, Miss World Haiti has seen Alysha Morency in 2019, Erlande Berger in 2021, and Valiérie Alcide in 2023.
During the press conference, Miss World Haiti National Director Anedie Azael Doura took the opportunity to appeal to the authorities. She asked for their support to facilitate the obtaining of visas for the candidates, so that they can represent their country internationally in the competition.
