A delegation of Kenyan officials, including the mission force commander, landed in Haiti on Monday aboard a flight operated by Sunrise Airways.

The arrival of this delegation marks the start of an evaluation mission, according to information relayed by the Miami Herald. This team will be tasked with closely examining the preparations for the current mission.

During their stay, which will extend over the entire week, the members of the delegation will have a busy schedule. Among the highlights, several meetings are planned, notably with the United Nations Integrated Office in Port-au-Prince. These meetings aim to coordinate efforts between the different stakeholders and to assess the situation on the ground in order to determine the actions to be undertaken as part of the mission.

According to the Miami Herald, U.S. and Kenyan officials have been reluctant to discuss the details of their plans, fearing that Haitian gangs whose deadly rampage in Port-au-Prince has forced the international community to accelerate the deployment of forces could stockpile ammunition in preparation for combat. According to the newspaper, the first Kenyan contingent is expected to consist of a few hundred police and support staff. A contingent in Jamaica is also awaiting deployment orders.
