The French Press Agency (AFP) reported that a Kenyan force will leave Nairobi on Tuesday June 25, 2024, bound for Port-au-Prince, the Capital of Haiti, for the effective deployment of the Multinational Support Mission to Security (MMSS). The announcement was made by the Kenyan police, according to the aforementioned media.

THE HAITI FACTOR, June 23, 2024._Towards the effective deployment in Haiti of the Multinational Security Support Mission to reinforce the Haitian police in the fight to combat gangs.

Indeed, according to AFP, a Kenyan force will leave for Haiti on Tuesday June 25 to lead a mission supported by the UN, several government and police sources told the French Press Agency (AFP).

The mission will land in Haiti with the aim of helping the country’s armed forces combat gang violence. Thus, 1000 Kenyan police officers will be part of it, according to Kenyan government authorities.

« The departure will take place on Tuesday this week”declared an official of the Ministry of the Interior on condition of anonymity to AFP, adding that “ preparations are underway for the team to leave for Haiti on Tuesday. We already have two advanced teams who have left. One last week and another yesterday”said a senior police official.

The announcement of the departure of Kenyan police officers to Haiti comes in a context of crisis where Kenya is faced with vague protests by young people against the mismanagement of the country by President William Ruto.

No less than two people have already lost their lives in the past week during popular protests, the country’s media reported.
