In a press release issued on Wednesday, Bahamian authorities announced that they are actively searching for Haitian rapper Jonathan Wens Désir, known as MechansT. The 32-year-old musician, who has been missing for several days, was last reportedly seen at a local nightclub on May 18, 2024.
Believed to have travelled by boat through Bahamian waters heading for the United States, authorities have launched a massive maritime search operation to track him down.
Initial reports indicate that the Abaco Police Department was notified of MechansT’s disappearance on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, and immediately began an investigation. The statement said that no official record of Jonathan Désir entering or leaving Bahamian territory has been found.
Local police forces, in collaboration with the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association (BASRA), are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could help locate the missing artist.
