NEWS-MERCATO: From the Portuguese D2 to the French D3 for Carnejy Antoine

By Mythsouka Jean-Philippe

Carnejy Antoine, the Haitian striker who will celebrate his 33rd birthday on July 27, continues his football career in France. After having worn the colors of several clubs such as Saint Pryvé Saint-Hilaire FC, US Orléans, Casa Pia AC, Hapoel Haïfa, SCU Torreense and CD Feirense, he is preparing to play again in French Division 3, this time under the colors of Valenciennes FC.

Valenciennes FC, which had its last season in Ligue 1 in 2013-2014 and its last season in Ligue 2 in 2023-2024, has just been relegated to National 1, the French third division. It is in this club that we will have the opportunity to see Antoine Carnejy evolve.

It is interesting to note that this same club had already welcomed a Haitian defender in the 1970s. This is Wilner Nazaire, nicknamed Kaiser Wil, who was the captain of the Grenadiers at the 1974 World Cup. A reference for the Haitian players who have followed in his footsteps since.

For some, this news may be disappointing, as seeing a player leave the Portuguese second division to join the French third division is not considered progression to higher leagues. However, it is important to emphasize that each player has their own motivations and goals. Perhaps Carnejy Antoine found in Valenciennes FC an environment conducive to his development and the accomplishment of his personal ambitions.

We therefore wish Antoine Carnejy great success in this new stage of his career and hope that he can contribute to the development of Valenciennes FC. Let us also hope that other Haitian players will be able to seize opportunities in higher level championships, in order to continue to proudly represent their nation on the international stage.
