  • This Sunday, OM will travel to Groupama Stadium in Lyon for a high-tension return match with increased security.

Throughout the years and different contexts, Olympico has always been surrounded by great tension both on and off the pitch. But with the events of the first leg, the second edition of this clash this season promises to be hot. As a reminder, on the first leg, the match was postponed after the buses of the Lyon team and its supporters were stoned, to the point of seriously injuring the face of Fabio Grosso, then coach of Les Gones at the time. The climate of tension will be all the stronger around Groupama Stadium as the Rhone residents are currently in a very delicate position in Ligue 1, 16th and play-offs. For their part, the Phocaeans are also plagued by doubt after some disappointing performances.

The clash between Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille this Sunday will take place without the presence of Marseille supporters, following a ban decided by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin. Even without the presence of opposing fans, the meeting was classified as very high risk by the National Division for the Fight against Hooliganism (DNLH). The security system has been reinforced due to incidents that occurred during the first meeting between the two clubs this season.

Six months in prison and 30,000 euros fine for non-compliance with the order

To prevent a repeat of events or attempts at revenge, OM will arrive in Lyon in an unmarked bus, escorted by several police vehicles, and alternative routes have been discussed to ensure security. The Lyon police have adapted the security system, while OM supporters are prohibited from going to the surroundings and within the grounds of Groupama Stadium, as well as from circulating in the center of Lyon, according to information from RMC Sport. Some Marseille fans could nevertheless be present in the Lyon stands independently and anonymously. The Lyon Public Prosecutor’s Office also reminded clubs of the importance of denouncing incitement to hatred on social networks before the match. The Rhône Prefecture also stressed that non-compliance with the prefectural decree could result in penalties of up to 6 months’ imprisonment, a fine of 30,000 euros and a one-year stadium ban.
