While the athletes’ official outfits, designed by renowned Stella Jean, were splashily unveiled during Monaco Fashion Week, the exact composition of the Haitian delegation remains shrouded in mystery. To lift the veil on this intense preparation, our editorial team contacted Mr. Fritz Gerald Fung, president of the Technical Commission of the Haitian Olympic Committee and head of mission of this delegation, in order to identify the composition of the sports delegation.

Question: Mr. Fong, can you explain to us how the preparation of the Haitian delegation for the Paris Olympic Games is going?
Mr. Fritz Gerald Fong: For several months, we have been working on Haitian participation in the Paris Olympic Games. We started by requesting invitations to ensure Haitian participation.
Question: How do you select the sports disciplines and athletes for these Games?
Mr. Fritz Gerald Fong: We examined the situation of the different sports disciplines in order to select the athletes. Seven sports caught our attention, following well-defined criteria.
Question: What are these criteria?
Mr. Fritz Gerald Fong: Among the criteria, we take into account the presence of Olympic scholarship holders, because the International Olympic Committee pays particular attention to these athletes. The athlete’s ranking, established according to the rules of the International Federation of the sport concerned, is also crucial.
Question: Which sports federations have a chance of being present in Paris?
Mr. Fritz Gerald Fong: There are seven sports federations that could have a chance to be in Paris, because these sports structures have athletes on our request list for the Wild Card. These are judo, taekwondo, boxing, tennis, gymnastics, swimming and athletics.
Question: Can you guarantee the presence of all these federations in Paris?
Mr. Fritz Gerald Fong: We are not sure that all these federations will be in Paris. However, each federation has a percentage chance of participating, even if they are not all at the same level in terms of percentage.
Question: Are there any disciplines already assured of their place in Paris?Yes, under the principle of universality, swimming and athletics are already assured of their place.
