Me Lionel Constant Bourgouin took office as the new Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, this Monday, July 8, 2024. “Our Public Prosecutor’s Office will not be a polyclinic or even a shop,” declared Bourgouin during his installation.
The installation ceremony was led by Jean Fanel Bazelais, representative of the Minister of Justice and Security, Mr. Carlos Hercule. The latter gave him advice on how to succeed in his mission as head of the public prosecutor’s office while explaining the expectations of the Minister of Justice.
In his speech for the occasion, the new head of the prosecution said he was fully aware of the arduous task entrusted to him. Mr. Bourgouin asked the Haitian National Police to do their worthy work to inform him of all the offenses committed in the jurisdiction.
“Dear lawyers of the Port-au-Prince Bar, I assure you that the magistrates of my prosecution service will not be your obligatory partners in the handling of your cases. We apply the law with complete impartiality to provide a response adapted to the seriousness of the actions and to each human situation,” declared the man who had spent about twenty days at the head of the prosecution service.

Members of the High Council of the Judiciary, the Acting Director General of the Haitian National Police and officials from the prosecution service participated in this installation ceremony.
