During a joint press conference with the head of the Multinational Security Support Mission this Monday, July 8, 2024, the Director General of the Haitian National Police, Rameau Normil, announced to the gangs that the playtime is “over.” He is committed to regaining control of the territories dominated by the gangs.
In his speech, Rameau Normil stressed that due to the total absence of the police for two years, security is compromised in seven municipalities in the West department. He promised a strong return of the police in all the infrastructures from which they were chased by criminals, affirming that soon, the gangs will be neutralized and the population will be able to freely go about their business.
Since taking office, Rameau Normil has not yet initiated any large-scale police operations. He explains that his team was in the assessment and planning phase. He indicates that he held several meetings with the Multinational Security Support Mission in order to neutralize the bandits and put them behind bars.
The director general says that the Haitian National Police has regained control of the general hospital, which once served as a hideout for armed bandits. “The fun is over,” Rameau insists, reassuring that a report will soon be presented.
“We know that the population has a long wait, but they can be confident. I guarantee that with the support of the mission, they will soon be able to move freely in the streets,” guarantees Rameau Normil, who promises to attack the gangs in their entrenchments.
“This affair of lost territories must end. All national territories must be under the control of the State. All points of the country will be recovered. We guarantee this,” says Rameau Normil.
Rameau Normil particularly insisted on the importance of collaboration between the Police and the Population to achieve the set objectives.
