Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, head of a police station in Londiani, western Kenya, was shot dead on Friday June 14 in a court after opening fire on Makadara chief magistrate Monica Kivuti. According to available information, the judge had just made a decision concerning a case involving the police officer’s wife.
The law enforcement officers present quickly responded. One of the police officers neutralized his colleague and three other officers were injured in the incident which occurred in full court, reports the media
According to Kenyan media, police said the slain officer was in court for reasons still unknown. In a press release, she announced that an investigation is underway to elucidate the exact circumstances of this event.
However, the Kenyan press recalls that the police are often accused of extrajudicial executions, although no such incident has been reported so far.
In response to this incident, the judiciary announced a strengthening of security measures. He also assured judicial staff and court users of their protection.
