President Joe Biden surprised everyone by announcing on Sunday, July 21, his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. This decision, which comes after several calls from Democratic elected officials asking him to withdraw, leaves Democrats in a hurry to choose a replacement just a few weeks before their convention.
In a statement posted on social media, Mr. Biden explained the reasons for his decision. “While I intended to run again, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and country for me to step aside and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president during my term,” Mr. Biden said.
