The Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) appointed this Tuesday, May 28, 2024 Gary Conille as Prime Minister to lead the transitional government.

Ariel Henry’s successor as Prime Minister is now known. The Presidential Council opted for Gary Conille, former prime minister under Michel Martelly, to lead the next Haitian government.

“The Presidential Transitional Council, by consensus, has chosen Garry Conille to lead the transitional government,” announced Fritz Alphonse Jean, member of the CPT, in a publication on X (formerly Twitter).

The decision follows separate hearings held on Tuesday with the five candidates pre-selected by the Presidential Council for the post of Prime Minister.

After listening to the contenders, six of the seven advisors supported Gary Conille to take the helm of the government.

Garry Conille, born February 26, 1966 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is a physician and former Prime Minister of Haiti under Michel Martelly from September 2011 to May 2012. After his term, he was named regional director of the UNICEF for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2023, overseeing activities in 36 countries and territories in the region.

The Transitional Presidential Council, by consensus, chose Garry Conille to lead the transitional government.
