After a fierce battle, the Transitional Presidential Council was finally formalized by decree. This victory, won by a close fight, represents a turning point for its members as well as for the private sector actors, the political entities and the social and religious organizations involved.

The path to the formation of this Council was strewn with pitfalls, notably with the opposition of the government in place, supporters of chaos fueled by gangs, and defenders of a presidency entrusted to a judge of the Court of Cassation to oversee the transition to new general elections.

As the Presidential Council prepares to take up residence at the headquarters of the Presidency on the Champs de Mars, it arouses both great hopes and deep concerns. The population is impatiently awaiting the first measures aimed at curbing insecurity and reviving activities in a metropolitan region plagued by gangs who terrorize the population, vandalize public buildings, loot businesses and burn down the homes of ordinary citizens.

The CPT is faced with an acute food crisis affecting the majority of Haitians, while ports and airports are largely paralyzed, leading to a shortage of food and medicine. In addition, it is urgent to reestablish national institutions, put in place the various laws implementing the constitution, revitalize the political landscape and organize credible elections.

However, will the members of the Presidential Council, from diverse backgrounds and often fierce adversaries, be up to this historic mission? Will they be able to overcome their differences and successfully complete this crucial transition for the nation?

So many hopes, so many concerns surrounding this new decisive stage for the future of Haiti.
