Around twenty lifeless bodies were discovered, notably on Panamerican Street, this Monday.

The victims are mostly young men aged 18 and 25. According to the information at our disposal, these are people suspected of links with gangs.

All activities were blocked in the commune and the national police were on alert.

The International Organization for Migration indicates that 17,000 people have fled Port-au-Prince for the province over the past week in a press release published this Monday, March 18, 2024.

Since February 29, 2024, a series of armed attacks have hit several neighborhoods in the Metropolitan Area of Port-au-Prince.

In total, from March 8 to March 14, 16,947 people left the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, reports the IOM.

The vast majority headed towards the departments of the Grand Sud, including Grande’Anse, the South, the Nippes and the South-East.

This migration only increases the pressure on a region already weakened by a significant influx of displaced people in recent months. Indeed, more than 116,000 people have already found refuge in this region, fleeing the violence and instability in the capital, as the report on displacement in the Great South highlights.

Individual interviews conducted by IOM with a sample of displaced people reveal that the main motivation behind their departure is violence and insecurity.

It is important to note that the vast majority of displaced people (96%) intend to stay in the provinces in Haiti, while only 3% plan to go to the Dominican Republic and less than 1% to the United States or Brazil. , according to the report.
