Port-au-Prince, April 2, 2024: The National Network of Victims of Crimes Against Humanity in Haiti (RENAVICH-HAÏTI) expresses deep concern about the increase in acts of terrorism in Haiti. This new human rights defense entity, member of the Haitian Observatory for Law and Freedom of the Press (OHDLP), attributes this violence in the country to the concept of Crimes Against Humanity.

In a press release sent to our editorial staff by its Founder and National Coordinator, Mr. Alex CALAS, and its Promotion Coordinator, Mrs. Meherline Antoine, RENAVICH-HAÏTI deplores the worsening of the situation marked by systematic violations of fundamental human rights human, accompanied by bloody crimes, since the worsening of the socio-political crisis which afflicts the Haitian population as a whole.

According to RENAVICH-HAITI officials, the total disregard of the competent authorities with regard to the fate of the populations victims of what they describe as state terrorism is clear proof that the gangs obey a political will and are guided by a powerful financial hand.

Due to the relentlessness of armed gangs, several thousand families find themselves homeless, without identity documents, without food, without access to drinking water and basic services. The organization also deplores the fate of hundreds of orphaned children, as well as the psychological after-effects and the dark future that looms for young people.

The acts of looting and vandalism of the places which housed the refugees further complicate their fate, underlines RENAVICH-HAITI, noting that the displaced are victims of reprisals in unknown areas, while others are taken for bandits by the forces of the order due to their clothing or the absence of identification documents.

RENAVICH-HAITI observes with dismay that the largest university hospital in the country (the General Hospital of Port-au-Prince) has been vandalized and occupied by armed terrorists, while around ten private hospitals have been looted and burned, and that around twenty pharmacies were looted and burned by malicious armed kidnappers, leading to a shortage of medicines on the market in the Haitian capital.

While launching a humanitarian appeal to the competent authorities (national and international) on behalf of the victims, RENAVICH-HAITI also denounces the opportunistic behavior of certain individuals seeking to take advantage of the misery of the most vulnerable.
