Haitian photojournalist Richard Pierrin selected for the prestigious Joop Swart 2024 Masterclass: a message of inspiration for youth

Out of more than 200 nominees, the young Haitian photojournalist Richard Pierrin was selected from 12 photographers to participate in the Joop Swart Masterclass 2024. This program aims to contribute to the development of generations of visual storytellers. During an exclusive interview with Juno7, the youngest emerging photojournalist in Haiti expressed his satisfaction and took the opportunity to thank those who believed in him, while sending messages to the young people of his native country.

“I feel deeply honored and grateful to have been selected to participate in the Joop Swart Masterclass. This opportunity represents not only recognition of my work and passion, but also the result of many years of dedication and effort devoted to my career as a photojournalist. Since the age of 18, I have pursued my dream with determination, and now, at 22, having my work recognized at this level is a huge source of pride for me”declared the native of the town of Petit-Goâve.

Furthermore, Richard Pierrin expressed his gratitude to all those who supported him and said he was ready to seize this opportunity. “I sincerely thank those who believed in me and supported me throughout this journey, and I look forward to this opportunity to continue to grow, learn and evolve as a photojournalist”he said.

Note that out of more than 200 nominees, Richard Pierrin was selected among 12 photographers who will have the privilege of participating in this program. He took advantage of this interview with Juno7 to send positive messages to young people. “I want to tell you that no matter where you come from or what challenges you face, your dreams are valid and your efforts can take you far.

As a young Haitian, I know the path can seem difficult at times, but always remember your resilience, your creativity and your inner strength. Don’t be afraid to fail, because it’s often in failures that the greatest lessons and opportunities for growth are hidden. Learn from your experiences, stay curious and open to the possibilities that present themselves to you.”

The Joop Swart Masterclass is open to professional photographers with 5-10 years of experience creating and/or publishing visual stories in the fields of photojournalism and documentary photography.
