sbac-filaments-or-blackheads:-how-to-differentiate-them?

Blackheads and sebaceous filaments are often confused. However, it is not at all the same thing. Explanations.

The differences between sebaceous filaments and blackheads

The black dot is the common name for open comedo. The black color is due to the oxidation of these channels contained in the sebum. The black dot measures between 1 and 3 mm in diameter. If left untreated, the blackhead can develop into a pustule.

THE sebaceous filaments are white or pale yellow “threads”. They line the pore walls of the skin. Their goal: to help channel the flow of sebum from the sebaceous gland to the surface of the skin. The role of sebum is to protect the skin from dehydration and external aggressions. We find the filaments on the areas which secrete the most sebum: sides of the nose, cheekbones and forehead. They consist of sebum, dead cells and various bacteria.

Blackheads and sebaceous filaments are often confused. In fact, they appear on the same areas of the face, and the tips of the sebaceous filaments can turn black.

However, sebaceous filaments are very different from blackheads. The first are a natural structure around hair follicles. A blackhead is a skin disorder that results from blocked pores.

In addition, it is located on the surface of the skin, while the sebaceous filaments are implanted deep in the skin, without generating a plug.

To easily distinguish them, a test is necessary. When you remove a blackhead, it looks like a black plug. Conversely, a sebaceous filament resembles a waxy, whitish snake. It may be accompanied by a darker tip.

Sebaceous filaments are not bothersome. They do not represent a pathology, so there is little reason to want to remove them by hand. In addition, you risk creating inflammation of the skin.

However, it is possible to reduce their appearance by washing your face with a gentle cleanser. This helps regulate your sebum production and unclog pores. A gentle scrub every week can unclog pores and tighten them.

As for blackheads, several solutions exist to get rid of them. Your beauty routine is also very important: remember to gently cleanse your skin. Use serums and remember to remove makeup and use a night cream before going to bed.

The choice of makeup is important: choose natural and gentle products for your skin.
