P-au-P, August 30, 2024 [AlterPresse] — The Haitian government received, on Thursday, August 29, 2024, a batch of 400 kits of personal protective equipment from Taiwan, with a view to strengthening the intervention and operational capacities of Haitian law enforcement in the fight against crime.
Prime Minister Garry Conille, who participated in the ceremony to hand over the equipment, expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Taiwan “for this fraternal and supportive gesture” towards Haiti, according to a note seen by the online agency AlterPresse.
The Haitian government is committed to using these materials wisely for the good of all.
“Security is the foundation on which our country’s development rests. Together, with the support of our international partners and the unwavering will of every Haitian, we will build a stronger, safer and more united Haiti.”
In addition to a material contribution, this donation is a reflection of a sincere and lasting friendship between Haiti and Taiwan, two nations that share a history of struggle for freedom, dignity and democracy, Conille emphasizes.
This Taiwanese equipment, custom-made according to the Haitian climate, should provide the best protection to agents deployed in the field, argues the Taiwanese ambassador to Haiti, Richard Wen-Jiann Ku, at the end of his mission in Haiti.
Each kit in this bundle includes a bulletproof helmet, a bulletproof vest that meets the international ballistic standard, pouches for various magazines and radios, balaclavas, cut-resistant gloves, protective glasses and tactical knee pads, he details.
This donation brings to a total of 800 kits the quantity of personal protection kits given to the Haitian government in the space of two years, said the Taiwanese diplomat.
In addition, the Department of Defense in the United States of America began delivering, since Friday, August 23, 2024, to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Multinational Security Support Mission (Mamas), several anti-ambush and anti-mine vehicles, many of them equipped with turrets (air gunner protection kits).
The fight against armed gangs would tend to progress in Haiti with the delivery of this new equipment, notably armored vehicles resistant to ambushes, estimates the MMAS, in a note. [emb rc apr 30/08/2024 12:50]
