Several trade union associations grouped under the name of SEREHA, the Haitian Claims Sector, met this Tuesday with Prime Minister Garry Conille and the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Georges Wilbert Franck. The objective of this meeting was to present the demands of various sectors of Haitian society living in poor conditions and poorly functioning.

Lionel Calas, one of the leaders of SEREHA, told the editorial staff of À LA UNE that the organization has submitted a set of grievances in a “book of demands” to the Prime Minister and his government. These demands include those of the textile sector, the OAVCT union, the professional security union, the high school students’ union, peasant associations, women’s unions, among others.

The Haitian Observatory for the Law and Freedom of the Press, also part of SEREHA, has highlighted human rights and the difficult situation of journalists for several years, the abuses and ordeals to which they are subjected in the exercise of their functions.

Prime Minister Garry Conille congratulated SEREHA for the presentation of the “book of demands” promising follow-ups on these demands. Dr. Bunny made it known that Each ministry concerned will be instructed to seek possible and sustainable solutions. The Minister of Social Affairs announced the formation of a committee collaborating with the Prime Minister’s Office to analyze the proposals of SEREHA and assess which could be implemented quickly.

This meeting demonstrates the willingness of the government and sectors of civil society to work in the interest of the population. The Haitian population has been waiting for concrete actions from the government in place for more than a month.
