Launched yesterday, Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Montana Hotel with the support of the United States Embassy, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) ended the two days of work on sexual violence in the sports environment this Friday.
During this activity, several personalities present took stock of acts of sexual violence that are common in the Haitian sports environment. They call on those responsible to take urgent measures and to put in place functional mechanisms, at the level of the ministries, federations and associations directly concerned in order to stop this scourge.
Participating in this activity, the US Chargé d’Affaires Eric William Stromayer reiterated the US’s commitment to maintaining the partnership with the MJSAC. He promised that his country would continue to support the initiatives of the sports sector to combat sexual violence in the environment.
The MJSAC’s chief of staff, Jean Tholbert Alexis, for his part, indicated that the static data concerning acts of sexual violence have never been documented. According to him, this is detrimental to the consideration of the scale of the situation.
In this sense, the head of the MJSAC invites the different sectors of the country to act and to equip sports groups with a view to prevention and to continue to lead the fight against this scourge.
The participants, for their part, were satisfied with the two days of the workshop. They praised the leadership of Jean Tholbert Alexis, director of the MJSAC firm, who greatly contributed to this project.
Several personalities took part in the launch of this workshop, including Prime Minister Dr Ariel Henry, Acting Minister of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), Emmelie Prophète, Minister of MJSAC, Raymonde Rival, Citizen Protector Renan Hédouville, Ambassador of the Republic of Germany, Peter Sauer.
At the end of the two days of workshops, certificates were presented to the various sports federations that participated in the activity.
