Protest movements announced at CHC-UEH-L: students of the Faculty of Health Sciences are mobilizing to defend their rights.
A wind of protest is blowing on the Henri Christophe Campus in Limonade (CHC-UEH-L), where students from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FSS) are preparing imminent protest movements. The Heritage Guardians Group of the FSS-CHC-UEH-L recently published a notice addressed to the entire student community, denouncing the lack of concrete actions by the Management Board and the attempts to exclude graduates of the Limonade School of Medicine (EML) from the hospital residence, particularly at the Justinien University Hospital (HUJ).
The students’ demands mainly concern the increase in the number of residency positions at HUJ to a minimum of 50, the implementation of the third cycle of medical studies at the Faculty, and the respect of the distribution of residency positions, guaranteeing 100% of positions at HUJ for EML graduates, as well as a third of positions in other public university hospitals.
The students are also demanding the reopening of specializations in Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Family Medicine, Community Health and Epidemiology, as well as the opening of specializations at the OFATMA University Hospital Center in Port-de-Paix, with a 50% quota reserved for EML graduates.
Furthermore, they demand the immediate resignation of Dr Désir Jory from all his functions within the HUJ, the rapid election of a new Dean and Vice-Dean of the FSS, as well as a transparent and credible election of the new members of the Management Board of the CHC-UEH-L.
The Management Council, whose term expired on November 23, 2022, continues to hold office despite the absence of elections to renew its members. In addition, this council rents campus spaces for non-academic activities, while the infrastructure deteriorates day after day without any maintenance, the students pointed out.
Despite the repression by the Management Council, which is trying to break the movement by targeting and sanctioning certain students, the latter remain determined. They demand the immediate lifting of all sanctions and they will not back down until their voices are heard and concrete actions are taken.
In response to campus degradation and actions perceived as discriminatory towards graduates of theEMLstudents emphasize that these protest movements will continue until their demands are fully met. The Heritage Guardians Group has reaffirmed its determination to defend the interests of the faculty and the campus.
