Taiwan donated 400 kits of personal protective equipment to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H), during a ceremony held this Thursday, August 29, 2024. This gesture, which Dr. Garry Conille described as “precious”, aims to strengthen the intervention capacities of Haitian law enforcement in their fight against insecurity.
During this official handover, Prime Minister Garry Conille expressed his gratitude to Taiwan, represented by Ambassador Richard Wen-Jiann Ku. “Let me, first of all, express our sincere gratitude to the government and people of Taiwan, represented here by His Excellency the Ambassador of Taiwan to Haiti, Mr. Richard Wen-Jiann Ku, for this fraternal and solidarity gesture towards our nation. It is with deep gratitude and renewed hope that we gather today for this ceremony to hand over equipment to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FADH),” said Dr. Garry Conille.
He also reiterated the importance of security for the country’s development. “In receiving these materials, we commit to using them wisely, for the good of all. Security is the foundation on which our country’s development rests. Together, with the support of our international partners and the unwavering will of every Haitian, we will build a stronger, safer, and more united Haiti,” he said.
The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing that this donation is not only a material support, but also a symbol of sincere friendship between Haiti and Taiwan. “This donation is not only a material contribution; it is also a reflection of a sincere and lasting friendship between Haiti and Taiwan, two nations that share a history of struggle for freedom, dignity and democracy. Through this gesture, Taiwan reaffirms its interest in working with us in our common quest for security and development,” he said.
For his part, Taiwanese Ambassador to Haiti Richard Wen-Jiann Ku said that each kit includes equipment such as a bulletproof helmet, a bulletproof vest that meets international standards, magazine and radio pouches, balaclavas, cut-resistant gloves, protective glasses and tactical knee pads. He also noted that this donation brings to 800 the total number of personal protection kits provided to the Haitian government over the past two years.
“I am delighted to be able to provide you with these personal protection kits intended for the Haitian National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces. I am confident that with this MADE IN TAIWAN equipment, tailor-made for the Haitian climate, this will provide the best protection to the agents deployed in the field,” concluded Ambassador Richard Wen-Jiann Ku, at the end of his mission in Haiti.
