They had threatened to burn down the Carrefour sub-police station at the airport and took action this Monday evening, according to witnesses. Bandits who are members of the new “Living Together” coalition wanted to seize this police installation located in a strategic area giving access to Delmas.
While the sub-police station was supposed to be protected by an armored vehicle following the gangs’ announcements, they easily managed to set it on fire this Monday evening. Images of the fire are viral. The police officers stationed in the sub-police station fled, leaving the field open to the armed bandits. Following the fire at the police station, members of the community began to flee their homes.
In less than a week, at least 5 police stations have been set on fire since the start of gang hostilities against the government. These are the Portail de Léogâne, Bon Repos, Cazeau, Cabaret and airport crossroads police stations.
Since the armed gang attack on the penitentiary and the civil prison of Croix-des-Bouquets, voices have been raised to demand the resignation of the director general of the national police Frantz Elbe, whose record is considered catastrophic.
