Controversy over the appointment of an Argentinian referee for the Brazil-Uruguay quarter-final.

The decision of the CONMEBOL to appoint Argentinian Dario Herrera as central referee for the Copa America quarter-final between Brazil and Uruguay, scheduled for tomorrow Saturday, July 6, 2024, has drawn criticism from some Brazilian fans on social media, particularly in Haiti. Indeed, two other Argentinian referees will assist Herrera, while the VAR will be managed by two Mexicans and a Nicaraguan.

The decision comes amid a fierce rivalry between Brazil and Argentina, leading many fans to express their discontent. They believe that choosing an Argentine referee for a match involving Brazil could be biased.

On the sporting front, Brazil finished second in their group behind Colombia and will face Uruguay without Vinícius Junior, suspended for accumulating cards. This absence could weigh heavily on the Seleção in this crucial duel.

It should be remembered that the Argentine team validated its ticket for the semi-finals on Wednesday evening by eliminating a valiant Ecuador team in a penalty shootout thanks to a great Emiliano Martinez.
