L’Haiti Hydrometeorological Unit in a bulletin published this Friday, May 31, 2024, on its website announces the official opening of the 2024 hurricane season for the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico and the North Atlantic from Saturday, June 1, 2024, which will end on November 30, 2024. The authorities, including the SNGRD, the DGPC and the UHM, are seeking support from the press and organizations throughout this period.

Furthermore, a tropical wave, currently located southeast of the Dominican Republic and extending to the northwest of Venezuela, brings a mass of humid air to the Greater Antilles this Friday morning. As a result, moderate, sometimes heavy thunderstorms are expected in the Southern region as well as the West, Center and Artibonite departments late in the afternoon and evening, said the UHM.

Forecast for Haiti:

Morning: Cloudy weather in places, especially in the northern region.

Day: Breakthrough sunshine with a strong feeling of persistent heat during the day and evening.

Late afternoon and evening: Very cloudy with maximum temperatures between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Moderate, heavy, sometimes stormy rain showers are forecast over Grand-Anse, the South, the South-East, Nippes, the West, Artibonite, the Center and the North. There are risks of flash flooding in some catchments in the Southern region, UHM said.

Trend for the next two days (Saturday and Sunday):

According to forecasts, humidity is expected to persist over the weekend, with rainy activities expected mainly in Grand-Anse, Nippes, South, South-East, West and Artibonite in the afternoon, in the evening and during the night.

Forecast for Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas:

Morning: Partly cloudy.

Day: Sunny and warm with a strong feeling of heat day and night.

Late afternoon and evening: Cloudy to very cloudy. Maximum temperatures will reach 36 degrees Celsius and minimums 26 degrees Celsius.
