The thirtieth edition of the Livres en Folie fair will be held on August 15, announced the organizers, Le Nouvelliste and UNIBANK.

Initially scheduled for this Thursday, May 30, Corpus Christi, the fair will finally take place on August 15, coinciding with the feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, both of which are public holidays in Haiti.

The organizers have not yet disclosed details about the organization of this literary event in the country.

As a reminder, the postponement of Livres en Folie to an indefinite date was decided due to the deterioration of the security situation.

Last year, several hundred personalities, mainly from the Haitian cultural sector and publishing houses, expressed their opposition to the decision of the organizers of the Livres en Folie fair to invite Prosper Avril as a guest of honor for the 2023 edition.

A petition titled “No, not Prosper Avril” was signed by writers such as Lyonel Trouillot, Frankétienne, Makenzy Orcel, poets like Georgy Lundi, Syto Cavé, Jacques Adler Jean-Pierre, and others. They criticized former general Prosper Avril that his “political practices” did not “respect the democratic aspirations of the Haitian people.”

Despite this, the Livres en Folie fair maintained its course for its 29th edition, with former general Prosper Avril as guest of honor.
