Due to demographic decline, in order to attract residents to their city, the administration of Cumberland, a small town in the state of Maryland in the United States, is offering money of up to 20 thousand dollars to new residents.
Since 2020, Cumberland has been facing a demographic decline. The population has fallen by 12% since 2020 according to data released by the city’s municipality, cited by the newspaper New York PostAccording to this data, the city was populated by some 18,769 residents in 2022.
To attract families to repopulate the town, the Cumberland administration decides to pay people, through a new program, to come and settle there.
New residents will be entitled to $10,000 for moving and $10,000 for (approved) home renovations.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States. They must also have a full-time job.
