During the music festival on June 20, the group “Eritaj” highlighted the Haitian konpa in Spain, Madrid.

On the occasion of the music festival on June 20, the Eritaj group led by Lentz Louis shook the events room of the Real Sociedad Económica Matritense Madrid, highlighting the Haitian konpa, a first in Spain.

Questioned by Juno7, Lentz Louis, manager of the Eritaj group which operates between Santiago and Port-au-Prince, informed that this experience was extraordinary for all members of the group. “It was an honor for us to represent Haitian culture in a city like Madrid. The warm atmosphere that manifested within the public strengthened our determination to bring Haitian music everywhere in the world” he declared.

Regarding this initiative taken by the Haitian embassy in Spain, Lentz Louis emphasizes that it plays an important role in promoting Haitian music on an international scale. According to him, this initiative will also demonstrate that Haitian culture is rich and can be shared everywhere.

Lentz Louis says he hopes that next year, the initiative will continue with more energy while hoping that more artists will be invited in order to promote Haitian culture. Lentz would like to see a collaboration between Haitian and foreign artists with a view to creating a musical connection that can broaden the horizon of konpa.

It must be said that the program was inaugurated with a video message from the former Spanish ambassador accredited to Haiti, Manuel Hernandez who praised Haitian values and highlighted the richness of Haitian arts. The Haitian ambassador Guy Lamothe for his part clarified that this event was much more than a simple musical performance, it was also a question of promoting the candidacy of the konpa for theUNESCO as an intangible world heritage, following in the footsteps of soup joumou and cassave, already listed as world heritage.
