Armed bandits, identified as members of the “gran grif” gang, made threats of destruction against the Palace of 365 Doors, erected in 1820 in the commune of Petite Rivière-de-l’Artibonite by Louis Dupeyrac to serve of residence to Henri 1st, then King of Haiti.

Faced with the announcement of the imminent deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti (MMSS), armed members of the “gran grif” gang fear that the Palace of 365 doors will become a base for Kenyan troops. The leaders of this group are therefore considering the upcoming demolition of this historic monument, alerted Bertide Horace, spokesperson for the Commission for Dialogue, Reconciliation and Awareness to Save the Artibonite.

“The Palace of 365 Doors is the target of the “Gran Grif” gang. They clearly say they want to destroy the police station, the Palace of 365 Doors and the administrative complex, because they fear that the Kenyan multinational force will use these spaces to attack them “, declared Bertide Horace on the Micro-vérité show on Radio Télé Eclair this Tuesday, May 21.

Operations aimed at demolishing the police station began following the departure of police officers assigned to the commune of Petite Rivière-de-l’Artibonite after the tragic events of January 25, 2023, during which five UDMO police officers were murdered in Liancourt , reported Bertide Horace. Using chisels and sledgehammers, the criminals have already destroyed a large part of the building housing the Police Station, Horace points out.

Furthermore, according to Bertide Horace, the Commission for Dialogue, Reconciliation and Awareness to Save the Artibonite, aware of the imminent danger weighing on this historic site, has initiated talks with various civil society organizations as well as with local authorities to find solutions and save the Palace with 365 doors.
