The Haitian Consulate in Paris (France) has been the subject of repeated scandals for many years. These scandals are related to the difficulties in tracing the payment of 300 passports and the sum of 4,5000 euros that allegedly disappeared, leading to disastrous management of the said Consulate. In order for light to shine on the aforementioned facts that can be considered corruption, the Haitian Collective for the Support of Migrants (CHSM) is writing to the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), Mr. Hans Jacques Ludridge Joseph, to ask him to conduct an investigation into the last 7 years of management of the diplomatic institution.
THE HAITI FACTOR, August 14, 2024._At the initiative of Moise Eugène and Chednerson Saint-Firmin, the Haitian Collective for the Support of Migrants (CHSM) sent a letter to the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), Me Hans Jacques Ludridge Joseph, to ask him to open an investigation into the last 7 years of management at the Haitian Consulate in Paris, France.
The CHSM leaders are making the request to #1 of the ULCC following repeated corruption scandals that they have observed for many years within Haitian diplomacy in Paris.
According to them, the repetitive nature of these scandals has broken the bonds of trust between the Haitian community and these diplomatic representations, and has created a very conflictual relationship. They mentioned several cases of overcharging relating to the price of a passport at 145 euros followed by the existence of documents not recognized by the Haitian State billed at 50 euros (extension form).
The Coordinator of the Haitian Collective for the Support of Migrants, Moïse Eugène also mentioned a note of protest in September 2023, denouncing the illegal prices at the Haitian Consulate in Paris and the practices of Consul James Rockefeller Jales.
In August 2023, articles published in the columns of Haitian media spoke of disastrous management linked to corruption within the diplomatic institution, while employees do not receive their salaries and social contributions are not paid. However, funds were allegedly used for largesse towards parliamentarians, politicians, and diverted for other purposes, among others.
Added to this, no trace of payment of 300 passports was found, as well as the sum of 400,020 euros.
These multiple cases are similar to corruption that has been going on since 2017, according to the CHSM, adding that this investigation is necessary in order to promote transparency and re-establish the bond of trust between the Haitian community in France and diplomatic representations in Paris.
