The Embassy of Haiti in France celebrates the 275th anniversary of the founding of the city of Port-au-Prince and is part of the promotion of the “Haiti-Emergence 2049” project.

On Thursday June 13, 2024, theEmbassy of Haiti in France commemorated the 275 years of the founding of the city of Port-au-Prince in 1749. On this occasion, it organized a major conference followed by an opening dedicated to the International Exhibition which had been held in Port-au-Prince. Prince under the presidency of Dumarsais Estimé in 1949.

In a press release, the Embassy of Haiti in France informs that leading personalities from the political, diplomatic world and Haitian civil society took part in the event, and the evening was punctuated by the presence and speeches by Presidential Advisor Frinel Joseph, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), Dimitri Kerkentzes, as well as pre-recorded messages from other members of the CPT, in this case, Presidential Advisors Leslie Voltaire and Smith Augustin.

The Embassy would like to point out that this initiative is part of the promotion of the project “Haiti Emergence 2049” which aims to organize in the year 2049, a new edition of the Universal Exhibition in the Capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. She also emphasizes that this project is intended to be both a lever for the reconstruction of the city of Port-au-Prince; an engine for the sustainable recovery of the national economy; a new integrated framework of cooperation with Haiti’s international partners and a work of combined efforts of Haitians from inside and outside the country.

During the course of the ceremony, the Ambassador of Haiti to France, Jean Josué Dahomey Pierre, greeted with the greatest patriotic fervor, the highest authorities of the Haitian State, the Government led by Prime Minister Garry Conille , as well as the Presidential Council.

“Today more than ever, the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, needs to be completely rebuilt. And if Haiti does not have all the material means to respond to this urgent need for reconstruction, it nevertheless has a history, that of a people who always get back up despite the vicissitudes of time; she also has her daughters and sons, inside and outside the country, who are driven by a fierce desire for change” said the Ambassador.

In addition, the Embassy of Haiti in France would like to inform the public that the presentation of photos and images of the 1949 Exhibition currently on the walls of the Diplomatic Mission will continue until November 2024 and may be visited, by appointment, during office days and hours.
