Faced with the increase in the number of cases of edentulism, the High Authority of Health (HAS) has decided favorably for the reimbursement of dental implants in the people concerned.
The number of edentulous people is increasing around the world, despite the development of edentulous programs. oral and dental prevention. The cause, in particular, is the increase in life expectancy. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that, by 2030, approximately 30% of the world’s population would be completely edentulous.
Pour “improve access to care”the High Authority of Health (HAS) announced, in a press release published on November 6, that it was in favor of reimbursement of implant prosthetics for people suffering from complete edentulism and single edentulism. What would be the conditions to benefit from it if this advice is followed by the government? We’ll explain it to you.
Reimbursement of dental implants: which devices are covered by the HAS opinion
As the High Authority of Health points out, “the loss of one or all of the teeth, following loosening or infections, constitutes a functional, aesthetic and social handicap with consequences on health (nutritional deficiencies for example)”. Currently, implant-prosthetic treatment is the most widely used therapeutic solution in France. In 2023, nearly a million dental implants will have been placed there.
Also, after being contacted by Health Insurance, the HAS said it was in favor of reimbursement for two types of prostheses: supra-implant unitary fixed prostheses (PFUSI) used for the treatment of single edentulism and complete removable implant-retained prostheses (PACIR) used for the treatment of complete edentulism.
Dental implants: what procedures could be reimbursed?
As the High Authority of Health points out, “the care pathway for people benefiting from implant-prosthetic care systematically integrates the following 3 stages”. If the HAS’s advice is followed by the government, the actions linked to this care pathway would be reimbursed.
The pre-therapeutic phase, which includes thes “essential prerequisites for implant placement (clean mouth, without active pathologies and with good oral hygiene)”as well as the choice of treatment to remedy edentulism.
The therapeutic phase, in which we find the design and installation of the prosthesis. In the event of perioperative complications, they will be reimbursed if necessary.
The post-therapeutic phase, in which we find implant maintenance by professionals and by the patient.
