The US Department of State issued a statement this Thursday, May 30, 2024 in which it urges the Presidential Council and Prime Minister Garry Conille to quickly form a credible, responsible and inclusive government and Provisional Electoral Council. The goal is to hold free and fair elections while restoring security and providing basic services to all Haitians.

The United States also encouraged the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) and the Prime Minister to work closely with all sectors of Haitian society. This collaboration is considered essential to meet the needs of the people and to guarantee equitable representation of all stakeholders in the electoral and governance process.

CARICOM, which played a key role in the establishment of the Presidential Council, welcomed the appointment of Garry Conille. According to the regional organization, this appointment, resulting from a selection process including various stakeholders, represents a significant step towards free and fair elections and the return to constitutional order in Haiti. For its part, the Organization of American States (OAS) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Conille’s government in its efforts to secure the country, revise the Constitution and prepare for national elections.
