Inauguration of the OFATMA university hospital center in Port-de-Paix: a new health center for the North-West.
Monday, August 12, 2024 marks an important milestone for public health in the Northwest Department of Haiti with the inauguration of the OFATMA University Hospital Center in Port-de-Paix. This facility, inaugurated by the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), Georges Wilbert Franck, is intended to be a symbol of the transitional government’s commitment to supporting the population, particularly workers, by allowing them to have access to quality health care.
Minister Franck stressed the importance of this new infrastructure, stating that the proper functioning, efficiency, and progress of this hospital depend on the commitment of the population to ensure its sustainability. “This hospital is yours,” he said, while urging the community to ensure respect and quality of public service.
With 120 beds and built on an area of 5,130 square meters, the University Hospital Center offers a full range of medical services, including internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, and surgery. Specialties such as urology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, dermatology, and dental and radiology services also complete the healthcare offering.
Minister Franck also expressed his gratitude to the Taiwanese cooperation in Haiti, which has supported OFATMA for several years. He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the availability and efficiency of care in all hospitals of the OFATMA network across the country.
