The Netherlands: A Potential Surprise for Euro 2024?

By Hendy Désilien

_As Euro 2024 approaches, many teams are considered favorites to win the title, including: England, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. However, the Netherlands, often underestimated, could well spring a surprise this year. After an absence during the last two editions of the European Championship, the Dutch, led by Ronald Koeman, present a young team full of promise._

The Journey and Renewal of the Netherlands

The Netherlands have missed the last two Euros. Which pushed the federation to rethink and rebuild the national team. Ronald Koeman, back at the head of the selection, has relied on a new generation of talents to lead this renaissance. At the 2022 World Cup, the Dutch showed signs of their potential by reaching the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Argentina in a fierce penalty shootout. This performance demonstrated their ability to compete with the best teams in the world.

Promising Young Talents

The current Dutch team stands out for the quality of its young players: Cody Gakpo, Teun Koopmeiners, Ryan Gravenberch, Jeremie Frimpong, Denzel Dumfries and Marten de Roon, are just some of the names to watch out for. These players have already proven their worth at their respective clubs and are ready to do the same on the international stage. Their energies, talents and determination will be major assets for the Netherlands in this competition.

The Netherlands find themselves in a complicated group for Euro 2024, with opponents such as: France, Austria and Poland. France, in particular, is considered one of the big favorites for the tournament. To qualify for the elimination stages, the Dutch will have to pull out all the stops and fight for one of the first two places in the group. However, confidence in their young players and Koeman’s leadership could allow them to surprise their opponents.

Despite the traditional favorites for Euro 2024, the Netherlands have every chance of causing a surprise this year. With a team in full reconstruction and promising young talents, the Dutch are ready to take up the challenge and establish themselves on the European scene. If their players continue to show the same level of combativeness and performance that they displayed during the 2022 World Cup; it wouldn’t be surprising to see them advance far in the tournament. Euro 2024 could well be the opportunity for the Netherlands to regain their past glory and establish themselves once again among the best teams on the continent.
