Through a note, the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (RUEH) confirmed the looting, on the night of Saturday April 20 to Sunday April 21, 2024, of the premises of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.

In a note this Monday, the Rectorate deplored that this heritage of higher education in Haiti has just extended the list of UEH entities hit by the wave of insecurity that has been shaking Port-au-Prince for some time. “This recently rebuilt faculty enclosure was also the victim of acts of vandalism and looting on the night of Saturday April 20 to Sunday April 21, 2024. These acts continued during the day of Sunday April 21 and will continue throughout time when we wrote this note,” informed the Rectorate.

“The damage toll is to be assessed. However, it risks being simply unsustainable. According to the first elements of information, it was noted that almost all the solar panels and electrical equipment, cafeteria equipment and several service vehicles of the institution were taken away,” condemned the Rectorate of the UEH, which joins the deanship of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy to “denounce and vehemently condemn these acts of vandalism and looting” against this important university institution of the country.

“The Rectorate believes it is important to remind everyone that the State University of Haiti is the main provider of qualified human resources in the country. In this sense, it belongs to the whole nation. These systematic attacks against its entities are unacceptable and incomprehensible. Perplexed, the Rectorate finds itself obliged to ask who has an interest in destroying the largest public university center in the country,” argued the RUEH.

On the other hand, the Rectorate of the UEH wonders if this destructive machine would be part of a plot against the Haitian intelligentsia. “Despite everything, the State University of Haiti remains and remains in solidarity with the ongoing struggle of the Haitian people for security, education, justice, development, prosperity and sovereignty,” concluded the note.
