For a third time, the film “The Shadow of the Ceiba Tree” (La Sombra de la Ceiba) by Haitian director Feguenson Hermogene attracts the attention of a jury. This short film is among the 6 best Cuban short films at the Cinelatino Tuebingen Festival organized in Germany from May 1 to 8, 2024.
For the director, Féguenson Hermogen, the story of this short film comes after a meeting he had with a practitioner of Palo Monte, which is an Afro-Cuban religious tradition. Palo Monte, he continues, has a tradition of communicating with spirits and the dead.
Feguenson Hermogene used the tradition of communication with spirits as a pretext for exploration and travel in the universe of Palo Monte, which is very close to Haitian Vodou in terms of practice.
This film is a production of the International School of Cinema and Television. It was previously selected in two other festivals including the “Latino and Native American Film Festival” last April, in the United States of America.
